Where to start for your SAT or ACT test prep?

Start with materials and resources that are available from the makers of these tests, i.e. The College Board for the SAT test, and ACT Inc. for the ACT test.

Which materials from College Board and ACT Inc. are truly useful?

A common feedback that I have received from students is that the College Board "Blue Book" and the ACT "Red Book" are both very intimidating, given that they are 700-800 pages thick! The only materials within these books that are truly useful are the Practice Tests. These practice tests contain authentic questions coming directly from the makers of these tests. It is a waste of time to take practice tests provided by any other entities such as Barron, Kaplan, Princeton Review, etc. since they do not make these tests. Students have found tests from these other entities to be either substantially more difficult or less difficult than the actual tests, and are therefore not representative of the actual tests that students will encounter.

The College Board's Blue Book contains 4 full-length practice tests. These 4 tests are also on their website, along with 3 more tests leading to a total of 7 practice tests for the New SAT. These are available for free on their website, and pdfs are also available at the links below for your convenience.

ACT FREE Practice Tests

The ACT's Red Book contains 3 full-length practice tests. These 3 tests are however, NOT available for free on their website. Only 1 free ACT test is available online (see pdf link below).
